Thanks archie_lev - Civic Day is a great idea which was just waiting to happen.  An award scheme for good buildings is a a really idea - simple, positive and plenty of opportunities for getting people involved in nominating or voting.  You will find plenty of ideas and inspiration from other groups who run awards (hopefully people will get in touch through the discussion forum but do let us know if you want some pointers and contacts).  We will be running some workshops around the country to discuss ideas for making Civic Day a success and are working on the content now so please let us know what would be helpful.  They won’t just focus on one or two ideas but the agenda will very much be shaped by those getting involved - and I’m sure there would be interest in how to make the most of awards.

We’re getting a good mix of funding at the moment - with grants from Esmee Fairbairn Foundation (a charitable trust), Communities and Local Government and English Heritage and some corporate support from Bluefin through the insurance scheme.  This goes alongside the funding from civic society memberships and donations.  We’ve been able to secure this grant funding to help the transition to an independently funded Civic Voice and it is supporting our core costs with no strings attached.  We can’t rely on this funding looking ahead, however, which is why we must grow civic society support if the financial independence which civic societies were so clear they wanted during last year’s discussions is to be achieved.

Thanks for an interesting Civic Voice Live - lots of different issues and it is great to see nearly 200 people have now signed on the the Civic Voice Disussion Forum.  Continue to use it to raise issues and ask questions of everyone - and look out for the posts coming soon responding to the issues raised at the 2010 AGM
