Beeston District Civic Societies – Help prepare a Vision for Beeston

A voice for the People
#Beeston2020Vision is a local public engagement and empowerment project. It has been organised by an independent panel which has latterly come under the auspices of the
Beeston Civic Society.

#Beeston2020Vision aims to make Beeston a better place in which to live, work, play and visit - by encouraging a conversation about the future of Beeston.

Free Open Meeting
Contributions to the conversation have far outstripped expectations in terms of range, quality and quantity. With approaching 90 contributions whilst a similar engagement in the city of Nottingham attracted a total of 109 responses.

The project has become a significant empowerment for the ‘voice of the people’. It will resonate with those who are charged to represent our area when planning the future.
The next stage is a free-to-attend meeting: The #Beeston2020Vision Open Meeting – chaired by internationally renowned local resident Sir Martyn Poliakoff – organized at the Royal British Legion club, on Hall Croft Beeston on the evening of Wednesday April 27th 2022.

Catalysts for Action
The Open Meeting is planned as ‘a conversation and talk with the audience’ aimed to get feedback about shared concerns, aspirations and ideas for the future of Beeston.
Lead speakers - will encourage those attending to contribute openly and freely, Organisers hope that they will act as catalysts for action about the priorities for Beeston – Speakers include:

  • Lucelia Rodrigues, internationally recognised for her contributions to ‘Future Cities’. Lucelia will speak about Climate change and how both people and buildings can be resilient.
  • Chair of the local Broxtowe Borough Environment and Climate committee, Councillor Helen Skinner will talk about Local actions for Local people.
  • David Hallam, author of the Beeston History Book, will set the scene with his ideas about Beeston past and options for the future

Emphasis of the meeting is to hear what local people have to say – their ideas about what Beeston should be aiming for as we progress into the century – the voice of the people.

UK Premier of Commissioned Film
The meeting will open with a film about Beeston. Independently commissioned, the film ‘This is BEESTON’ features a preface by Sir David Attenborough
