Griff Rhys Jones announced as guest speaker at Mayor’s Lecture in Worcester

Griff Rhys Jones will talk at keynote civic event in Worcester Guildhall

Campaigner and President of Civic Voice, Griff Rhys Jones, will visit Worcester on April 27th to give this year’s annual Mayor’s Lecture, arranged by Worcester Civic Society.

The Lecture, hosted by outgoing Mayor Councillor Roger Knight, is to be held in the Worcester Guildhall on 27th April, and will be the keynote event of the year for Worcester Civic Society with invited guests to include local MPs; Robin Walker MP and Lord Faulkner of Worcester.

Griff will talk on the work of the civic movement in championing the historic environment and shine a light on the activities of the thousands of unsung civic volunteers up and down the country who campaign tirelessly on local issues on behalf of local people.

The Lecture will take place in the Guildhall on Wednesday 27th April at 7.00 pm. It is free to attend and all are welcome.

Griff Rhys Jones said, “I look forward to visiting Worcester as it is the quintessentially English city which boasts Elgar’s birthplace and the Cathedral in which King John lies and was placed tenth in the first national Heritage Index, published by the RSA and the Heritage Lottery Fund. I look forward to meeting the Worcester Civic Society and sharing my personal thoughts on how we can all make the case for our heritage assets and the historic environment, something that I know is important to Worcester as you bid for official "Heritage City" status."

Phil Douce, Chairman of Worcester Civic Society and Civic Voice Trustee, said, “We are delighted that Griff has accepted Worcester Civic Society’s invitation to give this year’s Mayor’s Lecture. As President of Civic Voice, Griff has championed the cause of the civic movement for many years and we know his talk will be sure to attract a capacity audience and help raise awareness both of the civic movement nationally and the issues on which we are working locally.”
