HERE’S TO CIVIC PRIDE! BIRMINGHAM CIVIC SOCIETY LAUNCH ‘CIVIC PRIDE’ ALE

In the run up to Birmingham Civic Society’s centenary year “The City Beautiful” (January-December 2018), the Society has worked together with Two Towers Brewery to develop Civic Pride ale.

Birmingham Civic Society was formed in June 1918 and so Two Towers Brewery developed an modern crafted ale based upon recipes used at the time the Society was formed.

The Society asked its members and the general public to suggest names for the ale. They received a wide-range of suggestions, some were real tongue-twisters that would have proved a bit difficult to order after a pint or two. The
Society shortlisted three names Civic Pride, Blue Plaque and The Centenary. The Society then put the shortlist to people to vote on via Twitter and a poll on their website. The overall winner by some majority (63%) was Civic Pride.

Gavin Orton, Chairman of Birmingham Civic Society said “When we were planning our centenary celebrations, we wanted to develop a variety projects that would surprise and delight as well as give us opportunity to work alongside
local businesses and celebrate the great work they do in Birmingham. It has been great working with Mark and Darren atTwo Towers Brewery whilst developing Civic Pride - they have a real passion for ale and Birmingham which made them
the ideal team to work with. We believe it is important to look to the future whilst learning from our past. The Society was formed in an upper room of 37 Bennetts Hill which is now home to The Wellington - so we thought it would be an ideal
way to help celebrate our centenary by developing an ale with a modern twist.”

Darren Campbell, Two Towers Brewery said “Two Towers Brewery is proud to be brewing ‘Civic Pride’ to celebrate the centenary of the Birmingham Civic Society. We share passionately the Society’s vision of being ‘concerned with Birmingham’s future and mindful of its past’ so we thought a fitting recipe to reflect this ethos would be an early 1900’s Indian Pale Ale, but with a modern twist. ‘Civic Pride’ is brewed using largely English hops in the style of the IPA to give a
modern, smooth, fruity and citrus ale”.

Ian Harvey, Executive Director of Civic Voice said "I always say, if we could bottle the passion of the civic movement, we would have a winning recipe. Birmingham Civic Society have done just that with "Civic Pride" ale. There is no better way to get ready for national Civic Day then to raise a toast to all communities across England as they prepare to celebrate National Civic Day on Saturday June 17th"

Civic Pride is being launched at an event at Two Towers Brewery on Thursday 15th June 2017. It will be available from The Gunmaker’s Arms and other suppliers of Two Tower Brewery. The evening can be followed on the evening via Twitter
and photographs will be shared following the event. The artwork for the ale was developed by Creative Tweed, a local design agency that the Society have been working with for a number of years.
