Kings Lynn Civic Society win Civic Day Award for innovative campaigning
he King’s Lynn Civic Society has won a national award for its campaign to bring empty and derelict properties into use.
Made by the society’s parent body, Civic Voice, the award for Innovative Campaigning ‘recognises the vital work done by King’s Lynn Civic Society in campaigning to get action taken on an issue of local and national importance.’ It follows Civic Day in June when the society highlighted a number of buildings and sites in the town which had been empty for many years and which could be providing vitally needed housing.
“We have long been concerned about the effect that empty and derelict properties have on our town,” explains Alison Gifford, KLCS chairman. “They blight their immediate surroundings and give an impression of neglect and decay. We therefore decided to bring some of the worst examples to the attention of the public.
