Lord Melvyn Bragg visits Cockermouth to lend support

The Wigton-born author and broadcaster launched a flood trail and publicised a batch of shopping bags made to promote the town.

Both initiatives have been designed to boost trade in the aftermath of the floods.

The flood trail, created by the town’s civic trust, will involve a guided tour taking in Wordsworth House and Jennings Brewery as well as other areas affected, including the town’s cricket club, James Walker and Co factory and the Derwent Mills residential area.

Lord Bragg visited shops in Market Place on Tuesday before walking down Main Street, where he looked at the flood-damaged premises of The New Bookshop before going on to Wordsworth House.
