York students pledge their support for the programme.

The last week has seen Civic Voice's Anna Wilson visit York and Bury St. Edmunds to help more people find out how they can protect and care for their local war memorials.

Over the next few months Anna will be supporting students from York University who are volunteering for the programme and have each pledged to apply for at least five of their local war memorials to be listed to ensure they are protected for the future.

Following the training one of the volunteers, Mark Simmonds, said,

'The Centenary War Memorial Listing Project is so important. Without listed status, many war memorials have little or no protection from demolition or inappropriate changes that can damage their historic character'.
