Your cities War Memorials need you!

Civic Voice, the national body for the civic movement in England, in consortium with Historic England, Imperial War Museums and War Memorials Trust are holding a community panel to discuss expansion plans for their War Memorials project.

The project, which was conceived as part of the national events to commemorate the centenary, is attempting to locate and record all existing war memorials.

Driven by the work of dedicated volunteers, the project now hopes to encourage local communities to undertake committee, leadership and management roles to advance the campaign and achieve the shared vision. A vision which, hopes to restore each memorial in time to commemorate the date on which it was erected.

The first meeting of the newly introduced community panel will be held in: Civic Voice Offices, 60 Duke Street, Liverpool, L1 5AA on Tuesday 8th September 2015 at 10am. All are welcome to attend.

Embracing the most recent arc of the Government supported project, Ian Harvey, Director of Civic Voice, said “We believe it’s vital that the City of Liverpool has fitting tributes to its fallen soldiers and can only achieve this with the support of the local communities. It seemed right that our mission to cultivate a society where everybody can say they are proud of where they live began with demonstrating our pride in the military”

Ben Murray, of Civic Voice, added “We’re eager to see how the project grows in the hands of the local community”
