Blue Plaque presentation at the Sun Inn

The Sun Inn gets a blue plaque

The latest of the Trust's plaques was handed over on Thursday 13 April 2017 to Carmen Booth, Manageress of the Sun Inn, Lightcliffe.

One of the area's oldest Inns, the Sun was built in 1730 and soon became a notable coaching inn, serving the Halifax to Wakefield turnpike road - one of the first such roads in the area.

The route to Wakefield was originally an ancient track, and would have enabled travellers to make their way to London.

Directly opposite the inn stands the tower of the demolished St Matthew's Church of 1775, which itself replaced the original Eastfield Chapel.

Chairman John S Culpan and vice-chairman Mike Stead did the honours, and wished Carmen and her staff future success at the inn.
