Completion of Restoration work on Signs

One of the four restored signs.

We have been working on trying to get a set of very old Finger Pointing Directional signs restored for several years.  These proved to be a lot more complicated than originally conceived, but working with a specialist restoration company and the the local conservation officer we are very pleased to be able to report that this project is now complete.  The weather had badly deteriorated the lettering on these signs and thus needed rebuilding with the same type of materials, these signs were not able to be removed for this work so everything had to be done in situ as they are stonework.  The Huntingdon & Godmanchester Civic Society have completed funded this work and as such it is our contribution to Godmanchester's 2012 celebrations because it is their 800th year of receiving their Charter from King John.  So they are all ship shape for this very important year of events.
