Millerground Update

Millerground Update

The Millerground project is now seeing significant progress behind the scenes. SLDC have appointed Windermere based Galpin Landscape Architecture to produce a design proposal and costings for the first phase of the enhancement. The aim is to have a fully wheelchair compliant path from Rayrigg Meadow car park right down to the lake shore and onto one of the jetties. The drainage will be improved both in the field and on the bank, and discussions are being held with United Utilities and the Outdoor Adventure Centre to improve the overall tidiness and attractiveness of the site. Work should hopefully start on-site in Spring 2018.

During last summer there were a number of beautiful sunny days, and some spectacular mist effects, especially in the early mornings.  This atmospheric photograph was taken between Christmas and New Year.

An item of exciting news is that an otter has been spotted swimming south in the lake close to the shore between Millerground and the Rayrigg Jetties.  It was seen by a visitor from Yorkshire who managed to take a short video of it swimming just near the buoys at Rayrigg.  It was the middle of the afternoon so keep your eyes open if you are walking in the area – we would love to have more information/photos.
