Buxton Civic Association winners in the 2024 Weston Charity Awards!

We are delighted to share the news that Buxton Civic Association has been selected as a winner of the 2024 Weston Charity Awards! BCA has been awarded a team of business experts and funding to tackle social and environmental challenges. The award gives the charity the chance to invest in its future with strategic planning support from a dedicated team of four business experts, thanks to pro bono charity Pilotlight, and a core grant of £6,500 from the Garfield Weston Foundation. Buxton Civic Association was chosen from over 180 applicants, all of which are frontline charities delivering youth, welfare, community, or environmental services in the North of England, the Midlands, and Wales.

Dave Green, CEO of Buxton Civic Association, said: 'In this challenging financial climate, it is vital that our trustees and I take the time to consider both our business positioning and how we further develop our work to serve the community we have worked within for over fifty years. Our selection for this programme is a testament to how important Poole’s Cavern and the woodlands BCA manages are, both scientifically and as icons within the local landscape. This is an exciting opportunity to build networks and share expertise, shedding further light on what our dedicated team of staff and volunteers achieves. We look forward to gaining further knowledge that will benefit our organisation and local residents in the longer term.'

This positive news builds on earlier successes, as BCA was awarded a grant of £249,990 from the National Lottery Heritage Fund’s ‘Resilience and Recovery’ for a two-year project. This funding will enable BCA to begin preparations for its diamond anniversary in 2027, by enhancing its volunteering, visitor, and membership programmes, giving further emphasis to developing widespread community involvement and public engagement.

Furthermore, we are currently in discussions with Dave Green and the Buxton Civic Association about appearing at a future Civic Voice membership Monday event to learn more about both projects.
