Civic Voice’s Ian Harvey Selected as Judge for the International Diana Award

Ian Harvey, our co-founder and Executive Director, has been chosen as a judge for the International Diana Award 2023-2024 programme. This global award recognises young people who are making a difference in their communities around the world. It is named after the late Princess Diana, whose values of kindness, compassion, and service it embodies. It is the only charity that was established in honour of Princess Diana.

As a judge for this prestigious award, Ian will have the privilege of reviewing the inspiring work of young people who are making a real difference in the world. He recently had the pleasure of meeting the other judges who will be joining him in this role, all of whom are impressive individuals hailing from diverse parts of the world, such as Africa, the USA, Iraq, and Australia.

The appointment of Ian as a Diana Award judge sends a strong message about the value of civic societies in developing the next generation of community leaders. Ian's appointment recognises civic societies' critical role in promoting civic education, participation, and empowerment among young people. Civic societies from Birmingham Civic Society's Next Generation Awards to Pershore Civic Society's Citizenship Awards to Pontefract Civic Society's school engagement are helping to create opportunities for young people to learn about local issues, contribute to community initiatives, and participate in decision-making processes, empowering them to become active and responsible members of society.

Ian is well aware that serving as a judge for the Diana Award carries a great responsibility and presents a unique opportunity to be part of a global movement that celebrates the power of youth. We are incredibly proud of Ian and look forward to seeing the positive impact he will have on this year's program.

"I am proud to be judge for the Diana Award program and to be a part of a global movement that celebrates the power of youth," said Ian. "It's an incredible opportunity to read about the inspiring work of young people who are making a real difference in their communities worldwide. I look forward to working alongside other judges from different parts of the world and seeing the positive impact that these young people are making."

Martin Hamilton, Chair of Civic Voice said: "Ian's involvement as a judge in the Diana Award programme is not only a great honour for him personally, but also a tremendous opportunity for Civic Voice and civic societies as he can learn more about social action projects that civic societies may be able to undertake to engage a younger audience. Ian's participation in this programme demonstrates Civic Voice's commitment to assisting and empowering young people. Overall, Ian's participation in the Diana Award programme is completely consistent with Civic Voice's mission and values, and we are delighted that he has been invited to support the Diana Award this year."
