Statement from the Civic Voice Trustees - Ian Harvey

We are writing to inform you that Ian Harvey, joint founder of Civic Voice who has been instrumental in developing Civic Voice into the national charity it is today, will be stepping down in the New Year to take on a new role at the Institute of Place Management at Manchester Metropolitan University.

Ian’s dedication, vision, and leadership have been instrumental in transforming Civic Voice from an idea into a respected national charity that advocates for communities across the country. His commitment to our "pride in place" mission has inspired civic societies nationwide, empowering communities to engage actively in shaping the places where they live and work. His contributions to the civic movement are immeasurable, and we are deeply grateful for his tireless commitment to making Civic Voice the influential body it has become.

While we are saddened to see Ian go, we are pleased for him as he takes on a new exciting opportunity, which will allow him to bring his passion and expertise to a broader, global stage. As part of a planned transition, Ian will begin his role at IPM part-time, working two days a week for them between now and Christmas, then gradually increasing to a full time position in the New Year which will give us time to appoint his successor. Ian will remain actively engaged with Civic Voice until his departure, continuing to host events, lead conversations, and participate in roundtables that help shape the civic movement. We’re pleased to let you know that Ian will be attending the Civic Voice AGM in London on 7th December, and we hope you will be there to join us.

To ensure continuity, the Civic Voice Trustees are committed to recruiting a successor who can build on Ian’s work, and we are actively seeking the right individual who shares our values and aspirations for the civic movement. We aim to have someone in post as soon as possible to work alongside the Trustees, allowing for a smooth handover period. Rest assured, it is business as usual at Civic Voice. With the support of our committed team and Trustees, we are focused on maintaining our momentum and continuing to deliver impactful work for our members and communities as the new government;s planning announcements continue. We remain as committed as ever to the work ahead and to ensuring that Civic Voice continues to be a powerful advocate for communities and civic societies across the nation.

A further statement will be made about the application process for his successor soon, but for now, please join us in thanking Ian for his remarkable service to Civic Voice and in wishing him every success in his new role.
