About

The Windermere and Bowness Civic Society has been in continuous existence since 1973, and is one of many similar societies and trusts in England.

We have well over 400 members who care about the appearance of Windermere and Bowness, and act to conserve and enhance their character.

The Society is a registered charity (registration number 505678) and our constitution is approved by the Charity Commission.

A committee is elected at the Annual General Meeting held every spring.  The committee meets on the first Tuesday of every month and communicates frequently and regularly in between times!

The Society, which is completely independent and non-political, is involved in:

protecting green land,
improving the appearance of Windermere and Bowness,
monitoring planning applications,
voicing opinion on road signs, building signs and street furniture,
influencing local authorities,
maintaining viewpoints.
